Public Health Nursing Job Task Analysis

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation provided funding to the National Board of Public Health Examiners (NBPHE) to perform a Job Task Analysis (JTA) for the public health nursing workforce. The purpose of the study, which was conducted between March and May 2025, was to determine the most frequent and important day-to-day tasks that public health nurses perform in their position and also what point in their career the task was performed. The JTA’s findings will guide the development of a public health nurse certification by NBPHE. The purpose of the certification will be to recognize foundational knowledge and practical application of public health and nursing sciences based on public health nursing competencies.
